Maaritza was purchased from D'Amors Arabians in 2003. Silvio, whilst looking at purchasing one of her daughters asked to see mum. Before even reaching her yard he saw Maaritza and that was that. No if buts or maybes she was the one he was bringing home. Since that day Maaritza has been an absolute pleasure to own and a much loved member of our family.
Her show results
were exceptional,
with Maaritza continuing her halter success after a substantial time away from the show
ring as a broodmare. In 2004 she was awarded Reserve Australian Champion
Purebred Mare, only missing the Championship on a count back having been awarded the same
score as the eventual winner.
Not only was she a brilliant halter horse but she also proved to be a
stellar saddle horse. Maaritza was started under saddle to give some variety to her conditioning
routine and immediately showed her enjoyment for this new discipline.
In a career lasting just over 12 months Maaritza was never unplaced and frequently mixed
it with much more experienced saddle horses, ultimately being awarded Australian Champion
Purebred Mare Under Saddle at the 2005 Australian National Championships.
In late 2005 Maaritza presented us with a fabulous colt by D'Amors Abdulla, Jesris Maahrus, once again showing her strength as a broodmare. At the time of her passing she was again in foal to Abdulla, a young life for which we also mourn.
Maaritza's final role was as 'kid's pony' to 12 year old Chris. Again demonstrating her versatility this wonderful mare would show beautifully for Chris and then happily stand ringside for long periods with him juggling her open halter and junior handler commitments. Anyone who saw these two together will agree it was a lovely sight.
On the morning of December 21st 2006 an aneurism brought this wonderful life to a premature end. She was fed as usual by Silvio at 6am, still happily munching at 7.30 but by 9am when I arrived to put her outside for the day she was gone. Our only comfort is in knowing that she did not suffer.
Words cannot describe the
shock we have all felt at Maaritza's sudden passing or the size of the
hole losing her has left in our hearts. She is irreplaceable.
