Not only was Saghira an iconic broodmare and fabulous show horse, but all who met her were captivated by her beauty and poise.

Saghira was co-owned with Donald & Patricia Amor of D'Amors Arabians.

'Lou' as she was affectionately known arrived here in June 2005 and we very much loved having her here with us.  She had a profound influence on the D'Amors Arabians breeding program, and now passes the torch to her progeny here and around Australia.

Saghira had the most amazing spirit and love of life. 

A week before Easter 2006 she sustained a massive shoulder injury that many believed would take her life.  Although unable to use the leg she set about recovering, and while locked in a stable for 9 weeks never lost her soft and serene expression.  She was quite clearly not finished here on earth and showed everyone what determination can achieve.

When she ventured outside again it was great to see her joy at being near her friends.  The next eight weeks though, were even tougher for Saghira.  She was extremely weak from being locked in a stable and would often lie down, unable to get up without assistance.  Many times we questioned our decisions to persevere, but always we came back to Saghira's will to live.  She never gave up so who were we to do so. 

I cannot describe the moment when Saghira managed to get up without assistance, she was so pleased with herself and from that moment never looked back.  She had free reign of the property and made it her business to visit every horse every day.

It is heartbreaking that after winning such a battle, colic so quickly took her from us.  She will be greatly missed.
